This is a contest entry for SlaveToTheMocha 's design contest fav.me/d75klcn for a species for Euphoria-21
It was fun to work on, and here i have some info on them.
Warning, it's quite long D:
Origins: The Anemoi have evolved from bird type creatures combined with mammals. The 4 legged creature has ascended to be one of the more sentient species of Euphoria 21. They are spiritual beings, that are able to move like the wind. They've learned many things that other species cannot image, and their intelligence reaches beyond other creatures.
Physical traits:
~Movement:
Anemoi have large strong back legs, and smaller, and a bit more fragile front legs. The feet and paws are like bird legs, but Anemoi have learned to function their front claws as hands for handling objects. They are not fast runners, since they cannot put a lot of weight on their front legs, or they will collapse the creature or brake the legs. But instead, they are excellent in the air, both in normal form, both part spirit.
~Diet and hunting:
Anemoi are omnivores of nature, and their diet mostly consist of creatures weaker than them, and a large variety of different berries and fruits. Anemoi cannot run after their prey, due to their land movement disadvantage, but instead, they are excellent when they attack their prey from above. They move silently through the air, and swoop down on their target, ripping their flesh with the rigged beak. Often, when the hunted is small enough, they pick them up with speed, and drop them from high altitudes to their death.
~Feathers and body:
Anemoi skin is covered with short hair. They have feathers formed as a crown on the back of their head. There are 3 larger feathers, that are at both sides. The feathers carry Crystal like orbs that are attached to them. The same crown like feathers are on the thighs and back. Since they are form a circular motion, and are only one layered, there is a place for a long tail. The tail hair is that of a horse would have, but much much longer. They serve no special purpose, so are mostly for appearance.
~Crystal orbs:
There are orbs on each Anemoi. They are most often found with 3 on their forehead, and some more on the larger feathers next to their crest. The orbs that would remind one of crystals, serve the purpose of connecting with the spiritual side. They are the fuel of taking part spirit, and be able to move like the wind. When active, the orbs create a bright light, and make the whole Anemoi body glow almost just as much. The color of the crystal can be any color.
Behaviour:
~Aggression and defense
Anemoi overall are not meant to be an aggressive species. They are not meant for long term fighting, more more as a single blow attackers. Their fragile bodies make them easily injured, but their attacks aren't as fragile as it's defense. The long sharp talons are built for shredding deep into flesh, and their beak is strong and great for ripping. They will not attack without reason, most of the times, but they will defend themselves, when attacked. When they see that they are not strong enough to fight someone, they flee into the air. There can me exceptional specimens, which have different personalities, and takes on other species.
~Day-night cycle:
Anemoi are active for a half of the night and a half of the day. They usually are most active at times of sunrise. Anemoi day usualy begins in the middle of the night, and the set to sleep in the middle of the day. Those times of the cycle have the freshest air, so they like to enjoy it. There are exceptions.
~Communication:
They haven't developed any kind of a special language, but they communicate with screeches. They don't have any special sounds everyday, only screeches, but when they want to impress the other gender, their voice becomes more as a song, pleasing to hear, instead of the screeches.
Part spirit:
As part spirit, Anemoi are able to become 'one with the wind'. They active the crystal orbs found on it's body, which phases and fades it's feathers into flowing lights. The orbs and Anemoi itself glow at this point. It is an amazing view for one to see. While in this stage, Anemoi loses it's solid state, and becomes sort of transparent.

I will not write much about the history and origins, since i don't want to write anything that wouldn't go with the headworld.
Also, sorry for the long read, but more and more ideas kept popping in my head as i wrote. Aaaaand sorry for the badly drawn spirit form... i had no idea how to get it out without making it too detailed :I
I also presume that the specimen in the ref could be that of the West.
